GoVote Partners with Kenya's Open Institute to Strengthen Democracy in East and West Africa
Lagos, Nigeria & Nairobi, Kenya – June 10, 2025
GoVote, a civic-tech initiative backed by Nigeria’s Co-creation Hub (CcHUB), has announced a strategic partnership with Kenya-based Open Institute to advance democratic engagement, civic education, and governance reform across East and West Africa.
The collaboration seeks to combine GoVote’s strength in empowering Nigerian citizens with voter information and the Open Institute’s track record in promoting open governance and grassroots participation across Kenya and beyond. Together, the organizations aim to bolster civic ecosystems and deepen democratic accountability on the continent.
“As we work to help citizens understand their role in governance and use digital tools to support democracy, this partnership enables us to expand our impact beyond the electoral process,” said Yvonne Eweka, Senior Programmes Manager – Elections and Governance at CcHUB. “We’re excited to collaborate with the Open Institute to foster inclusive governance and sustained civic engagement across Africa.”
The partnership will focus on equipping civil society organizations (CSOs), human rights advocates, community-based organizations (CBOs), policymakers, and public officials with resources and digital tools to promote transparency and citizen participation. Through the integration of platforms such as GoVote.ng and Somo Africa, both organizations intend to bridge critical information gaps and create participatory frameworks that support more accountable leadership.
Loise Mboo, Chief of Staff and Director of Team Wellness at the Open Institute, described the partnership as a step toward scaling civic action and reform across the continent.
“This is about empowering citizens and institutions with the knowledge and agency needed to influence governance outcomes,” Mboo said. “Together with GoVote, we are committed to strengthening democratic institutions and networks through innovation and collaboration.”
With rising challenges to democracy across the globe, this East-West Africa alliance aims to model a tech-driven, citizen-focused approach to inclusive governance and political engagement.
