First Lady Visits Enugu, Distributes Professional Kits, Grants to Women Traders

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to national unity and grassroots development, emphasizing that nation-building must transcend political affiliations.

Speaking during a two-day working visit to Enugu State, Senator Tinubu described Nigeria’s diversity as a strength and urged all citizens to harness it for collective progress.

“We must grow this nation irrespective of party affiliation,” she said during a meeting with traditional rulers in Enugu. “Nigeria is a beautiful country and no one should be hindered from visiting any part of it. We pray for improved security and a nation where everyone feels safe.”

She also urged the royal fathers to support her advocacies on public health issues such as cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and female genital mutilation, noting that traditional rulers serve as vital links between the people and the government.

Highlighting upcoming programs under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Tinubu mentioned “Flow with Confidence,” a project aimed at ensuring adolescent girls do not miss school during their menstrual periods, and the establishment of Environment Clubs in schools to engage young Nigerians in environmental restoration.

Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu, lauded the First Lady’s advocacy work and affirmed that regressive cultural practices affecting women had been eliminated in the state.

“For us here in Enugu, we the traditional rulers say, no vacancy in Aso Rock,” he declared in a show of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

At a separate event in Enugu, Senator Tinubu supervised the final distribution of professional kits—scrubs and crocs—to midwives in the South East, concluding a nationwide initiative that saw 50,000 sets distributed across all six geopolitical zones.

“Since the launch in January 2025, we’ve ensured that every zone receives its allocation. Today, we complete this cycle here in the South East,” she said.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah praised the First Lady for her dedication to healthcare, describing her as the “Florence Nightingale of our time.”

“She has shown remarkable responsiveness to critical health issues, and we appreciate President Tinubu’s leadership and goodwill,” he said.

Governor Mbah also addressed the midwife beneficiaries, telling them: “Your kits matter because you matter and your work matters.”

The First Lady capped her visit with the presentation of a ₦50 million grant for 1,000 women petty traders in Enugu State under the Renewed Hope Initiative, further reinforcing her focus on women empowerment and economic inclusion.
