…Urges Unity, Strategic Mobilization for Landslide Victory

As Lagos State prepares for the July 12 Local Government Elections, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates to intensify grassroots mobilization and conduct issue-based campaigns that reflect the party’s strength and unity across all levels.

Speaking during a Stakeholders' Special Engagement with Mr. Governor held at the State House in Marina, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that no candidate or member should approach the elections with complacency. He insisted that a landslide victory would only be achieved through rigorous campaigning, strategic outreach, and solidarity within the party.

The governor expressed satisfaction at the post-primary reconciliation process, commending aspirants like Prince Ladega who stepped down in deference to party supremacy. According to him, the show of loyalty and maturity demonstrates the APC’s internal cohesion and readiness to face the electorate as a united front.

“Everyone in our party is important,” Sanwo-Olu stressed. “This summit is to remind us that we have a responsibility to those who gave us the mandate. Our victory must be total and well-deserved, built on the trust of the people.”

The Governor also conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s satisfaction with developments in Lagos, noting that local victories would reaffirm the party’s grip on its political base.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, reminded chairmanship hopefuls of the need for visionary leadership at the grassroots. He referenced the legacy of President Bola Tinubu as former Lagos Governor and the transformational work of late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, urging the incoming local leaders to emulate their examples.

“The Lagos story cannot be told without Jakande,” Olusi said. “In just four years, he changed the landscape of this state. Our leaders must show the same courage, creativity, and care for the people.”

He also urged party loyalists to accept outcomes in the spirit of service, and prayed for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s successful completion of his tenure.

Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, called on party members to move beyond the tensions of the primaries and work collectively for victory. She encouraged candidates to reach out to former opponents to build broader alliances.

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, appealed to women across the 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs to play an active role in mobilization. She expressed confidence that the APC would deliver people-focused governance once elected representatives assume office.

Also addressing the gathering, APC State Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, urged candidates and party structures to embark on door-to-door campaigns to translate party support into electoral success.

The July 12 council elections will be conducted across 375 wards in the state’s 57 council areas.

With the party’s top brass throwing their weight behind a coordinated grassroots effort, the APC is aiming for a clean sweep across Lagos State in the coming polls.
