Federal Ministry of Power, EKEDC Visit Ibeju-Lekki for Proposed 2x7.5MVA Substation Project

Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos – July 30, 2025 | In a move aimed at boosting electricity supply in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, officials of the Federal Ministry of Power and the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Tuesday embarked on a working visit to inspect the proposed site for a 2x7.5MVA power substation in the region.

The visit, led by Engr. Olaoye of the Federal Ministry of Power, follows the recent donation of two plots of land by the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to facilitate the project. The planned substation will be supported by a 50km 33KV dedicated line, with the goal of improving electricity access and reliability for residents and businesses in the rapidly developing corridor.

Receiving the delegation were top local government officials, including Vice Chairman Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, Deputy Leader of the Legislative Council Hon. Musibau Shuaib, Hon. Sebiu Lawal, and Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Marufdeen Olayinka. The officials reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting infrastructure development projects that would uplift the living standards of constituents.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the administration of Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, to drive infrastructural renewal and economic growth in the area.

"This substation project is a critical step toward solving our persistent power supply challenges. We are optimistic that once completed, it will transform energy access in Ibeju-Lekki, attract more investments, and improve the quality of life for our people," said a representative from the local government during the site tour.

The visit marks a significant milestone in the realization of the substation project, which is expected to play a key role in reducing power outages and ensuring more efficient electricity distribution in one of Lagos State’s most rapidly urbanizing districts.
