Lagos Moves to Boost Tourism with E1 Boat Race Series in Nigeria



MONACO, JULY 22, 2025 — In a bold step to expand its tourism and cultural frontiers, Lagos State is set to host the first-ever edition of the prestigious E1 Boat Race Series in Nigeria.


The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, joined delegates from the State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Monaco to finalize preparations and strategic collaborations for the international water sports event.


The high-level engagement underscores the State’s commitment to positioning Lagos as a premier global destination for culture, tourism, and sports entertainment.



Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka highlighted the immense economic and cultural benefits the E1 Series will bring to Lagos, noting that the event aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES+ agenda to boost tourism, youth engagement, and economic diversification.



The E1 Boat Race Series, known for its high-speed electric powerboats and global appeal, is expected to attract international attention, create job opportunities, and stimulate local businesses while showcasing the aquatic splendour and cultural vibrancy of Lagos State.


Preparations are in top gear, with the Lagos State Government expressing readiness to deliver a world-class event that reflects the city’s energy, innovation, and hospitality.
