NAOSNP Mourns General Muhammadu Buhari, Describes Him as a Distinguished Statesman

Lagos, Nigeria – July 15, 2025 — The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Nigerian President and Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died at the age of 82 in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

In an official condolence statement signed by NAOSNP’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eric Elezuo, on behalf of the National President, Comrade Oki O. Samson, the association extended heartfelt sympathies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Buhari family, the Government and people of Katsina State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the general Nigerian populace.

The association hailed General Buhari as a principled leader and courageous patriot whose lifelong commitment to the Nigerian project left indelible marks on national development, especially in the areas of security, anti-corruption, and discipline.

“We note with shock and sadness the death of our former Head of State and democratic President, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR. He was a soldier of integrity, a leader of vision, and a statesman whose legacy will remain etched in Nigeria’s history,” the statement read.

NAOSNP highlighted Buhari’s impactful career, from his early days as Governor of the North-Eastern State (1975–1976) and Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources (1976–1978) to his first stint as Head of State (1984–1985) and eventual emergence as civilian President from 2015 to 2023.

“His hard stance against corruption, his war against indiscipline, and his efforts to combat insecurity during his presidency changed the national conversation and instilled a renewed sense of accountability and patriotism,” the group noted.

The association further praised Buhari’s legacy of administrative reform, military professionalism, and his role in reawakening national consciousness when he returned to power democratically in 2015. “His presidency brought a renewed urgency to national security, public sector reform, and governance,” the statement added.

“Buhari was a statesman of immense ability, a soldier of honour, and a leader with a human face. His absence will be felt across political, military, and civil landscapes—particularly in the North and within the Armed Forces, which he served diligently since 1962.”

NAOSNP offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the former president’s soul, calling on Nigerians and the international community to remember him as a leader who gave his all in service to the country.

“We join millions of Nigerians and the global community to pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.

General Muhammadu Buhari, a career soldier turned civilian leader, will be remembered for his unwavering discipline, military gallantry, deep political convictions, and a lifelong dedication to the Nigerian nation.
