Oyo Government Allocates Land to Cashew Merchants in Ogbomoso, Resolves Long-Standing Dispute

In a significant move aimed at strengthening local commerce and fostering peaceful economic development, the Oyo State Government has officially issued land allocation letters to cashew merchants operating at the Ultra-Modern Business Complex in Ogbomoso.

The allocation marks the end of a protracted land regularization process between the merchants and the state government.

The presentation ceremony was held at the State Secretariat, Ibadan, and presided over by the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi. Speaking during the event, the commissioner described the development as a milestone that reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and business-friendly environment.

“For the government, economic expansion is paramount. A thriving economy can only flourish in a peaceful environment,” Adebisi stated.

He revealed that after a series of engagements with stakeholders, the government approved a subsidized rate of ₦250 per square metre, down from the initial ₦500. In addition, a two-year moratorium has been granted, with payments scheduled to begin in May 2025 and conclude by April 2035.

Hon. Adebisi emphasized that the allocation process was conducted with the highest level of transparency, assuring the merchants that no intermediaries were involved. He also praised them for their patience and cooperation throughout the negotiations.

In their joint remarks, representatives of the cashew merchants, Mr. Jide Akalaifa and Mr. Jubril Arulogun, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the government for addressing their long-standing concerns. They commended the Ministry for its open and fair approach and described the land allocation as a major boost for the local business community.

“This development provides structured opportunities for us to expand and contribute more meaningfully to the State’s internally generated revenue,” they said.

The merchants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the government’s drive toward inclusive economic development and pledged to use the newly allocated lands responsibly to enhance their operations.

The move is expected to improve the business environment in Ogbomoso, attract more investment, and strengthen Oyo State’s reputation as a pro-business state.
