Sanwo-Olu Applauds Outgoing Agboyi-Ketu Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, for Transformative Leadership
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has heaped praises on the outgoing Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mayor Dele Oshinowo, for what he described as an “exemplary and commendable” tenure marked by remarkable infrastructure development and impactful social interventions.
The Governor made this statement during the commissioning of the Otunba Bushura Alebiosu Multipurpose Building, alongside 15 other newly completed projects across Agboyi-Ketu. Sanwo-Olu noted that Mayor Oshinowo’s administration demonstrated a rare blend of dedication, vision, and service delivery that has left a lasting legacy in the LCDA.
“I have been invited four times to commission people-oriented projects in Agboyi-Ketu, and each time I come here, I see evidence of real work, commitment, and transformative governance,” the Governor said. “He deserves all the commendations. Only a Chairman who is doing well will continue to receive the backing of this administration.”
A Legacy Built on Vision and Delivery
In an emotional farewell address, Mayor Oshinowo expressed gratitude to God, Governor Sanwo-Olu, political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and the people of Agboyi-Ketu for their unwavering support throughout his administration.
“We have become the blueprint, not by mere words, but by our works, our will, and our results,” Oshinowo declared. “From roads to schools, from empowerment programmes to digital innovation, from markets to health interventions — every corner of Agboyi-Ketu bears witness to our covenant with the people.”
He also described the newly commissioned Otunba Bushura Alebiosu Multipurpose Building as a symbol of legacy and continuity, named after the late community icon to encourage excellence in public service.
Despite facing various challenges and criticisms, the outgoing Chairman said he remained focused on delivering meaningful development, a decision that has now translated into significant gains across sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, digital innovation, and women/youth empowerment.
A New Era Begins
The newly elected Chairman, Hon. (Mrs.) Adetola Adunni Abubakar, lauded Mayor Oshinowo for setting a high standard of governance. Having served under his administration as Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, she assured the public of her readiness to hit the ground running.
“I assure you this baton of leadership will not fall,” she affirmed. “I have seen the heartbeat of the people, and I pledge to build on the strong foundation laid by Mayor Dele Oshinowo. My administration will be inclusive, people-driven, and committed to unlocking new possibilities for the LCDA.”
She promised that her government would prioritize unity, transparency, and continuity, working hand in hand with residents to sustain the tempo of development in Agboyi-Ketu.
Endorsements and Reflections
Prominent dignitaries also shared tributes to Mayor Oshinowo’s achievements.
Hon. Dayo Alebiosu, son of the late Otunba Bushura Alebiosu, commended the decision to name the new multipurpose complex after his father, while urging the incoming leadership to build on the strong legacy left behind.
Pastor (Mrs.) Yetunde Arobieke, pioneer Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu, described the outgoing Chairman as a “vision actualizer” who has transformed the LCDA into a “mini London.” She applauded his administration for promoting continuity and building on the aspirations of past leaders.
The recently commissioned projects include:
- Otunba Bushura Alebiosu Multipurpose Building (84 offices, legislative chamber, marriage registry and hall)
- Agboyi Community Primary School (10 classrooms, crèche, ICT lab, sickbay, staff rooms)
- Agboyi-Ketu Tech Hub
- HRM Oba Taiwo Adesegun Lamina Sports Centre (550-seater with solar lights and safety nets)
- 12 newly paved and asphalted roads with drainage systems
In Agboyi town across the waters, development also thrived under Mayor Oshinowo’s watch, including a modern school complex and a sports facility commissioned by APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, who applauded the local council’s transformation under the outgoing administration.
The grand event was witnessed by a distinguished gathering of dignitaries including members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, political stalwarts, community leaders, artisans, the legislative and executive arms of the LCDA, and members of the press.
As Mayor Dele Oshinowo bows out, his legacy stands tall as a testament to what is possible when vision, leadership, and dedication meet at the grassroots.
