Transformational Leadership is Key to Growth, Says POWA President Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun at 2025 National Convention

Lagos, Nigeria – July 30, 2025: The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Egbetokun, has called on wives of police officers across the country to embrace continuous growth and transformational leadership as a pathway to unlocking their full potential.

She made this charge during her keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual POWA National Convention, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The three-day convention is themed “Unlocking POWA Potentials and Transformational Leadership.”

Dr. Egbetokun, who is also the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, emphasized the importance of personal development and leadership among police officers’ wives, stressing that transformational leadership is built on vision, trust, innovation, and empowerment.

“This convention is a yearly platform for the continuous growth of our members. It brings together police officers’ wives—both those whose spouses are serving and those widowed in the line of duty,” she stated.

“POWA is a non-governmental organization committed to supporting the welfare of police families, especially widows and orphans, while also contributing to community development.”

Dr. Egbetokun described transformational leadership as an approach that “inspires followers to achieve extraordinary results by nurturing individual strengths, promoting innovation, and fostering a shared vision.”

She explained that unlocking one’s potential is a journey of continuous self-improvement, embracing challenges, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. According to her, POWA is committed to helping its members realize this journey by creating a supportive environment for growth.

Highlighting POWA’s recent achievements, Dr. Egbetokun noted that over 3,000 women, widows, orphans, and persons living with disabilities have benefited from empowerment programmes held across various states. These initiatives included the distribution of sewing machines, grinding machines, ovens, wheelchairs, starter packs, and relief materials for flood victims.

These interventions, she explained, are in line with her three-point agenda:

  • Education for Development
  • Quality Healthcare Delivery
  • Better Life for All

Dr. Egbetokun expressed appreciation to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for their support. She also acknowledged the Inspector-General of Police and Grand Patron of POWA, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his unwavering encouragement and support.

The convention kicked off on Wednesday, July 30, with an opening ceremony and inspirational session. Day two, Thursday, July 31, features sports and empowerment activities at Onikan Stadium, while the event will wrap up on Friday, August 1, with a talent hunt and dinner at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.
