ANSEC Applauds FG’s Approval of Onitsha Mega Bus Terminal
The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has commended the Federal Government for approving the construction of a mega bus terminal in Onitsha, which will serve as the hub for the South-East region.
The Onitsha terminal is one of six mega terminals approved by the Federal Government for each of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The commendation was made during ANSEC’s 18th meeting, held on August 18, 2025, at the Light House, Awka.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the state government looks forward to maximizing the benefits of the project once completed, noting that it aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing transformation agenda for Anambra State.
Over the last three years, Governor Soludo’s administration has rolled out reforms and programmes across key sectors, earning him widespread recognition for performance-driven governance.
In healthcare, his free antenatal and delivery care programme has lifted financial barriers for expectant mothers, while the upgrade of primary healthcare centres and the construction of five new general hospitals—equipped with modern facilities and skilled personnel—have strengthened the state’s health system. The government also recruited over 1,000 health workers and introduced telemedicine services, securing Soludo recognition as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare in the South-East and across the country.
In education, the governor’s free education policy has expanded access to quality learning, demonstrating his long-term vision of investing in the state’s future generation.
Governor Soludo has also been lauded for prudent fiscal management, with Anambra ranking fourth nationally in BudgIT’s State of States 2024 Report for overall fiscal performance and sustainability.
In agriculture, empowerment programmes aimed at boosting food security have begun to yield results, while in security, the operations of Agunechemba and Udo Ga-Achi have significantly improved safety across the state.
ANSEC noted that the federal government’s approval of the Onitsha terminal will further complement these achievements, enhance transportation infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth for Anambra and the South-East region at large.
