Abuja, Nigeria – A high-level delegation from the Guangxi People’s Congress of China, led by Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee, has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) headquarters in Abuja. The delegation was accompanied by the Head of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Zhou Hongyou.
Welcoming the visitors, the Director-General of NCSP reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the One-China Principle and underscored the long-standing bilateral ties between both countries, recently elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at the 2024 Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He explained that NCSP’s mandate includes monitoring the implementation of 55 FOCAC projects, coordinating strategic projects of national interest, and driving Presidential initiatives across seven priority sectors.
In his remarks, Vice Chairman Zhang Xiaoqin commended Nigeria’s support and reiterated Guangxi’s willingness to deepen cooperation with the country. He highlighted Guangxi’s strategic position as a regional hub in southern China, noting its successful hosting of the China–ASEAN Expo and increasing trade ties with Nigeria, which rose by 21 percent last year to reach USD 320 million. Zhang also extended an invitation to Nigerian businesses and tourists to explore Guangxi’s strengths in fruit production, tourism, digital economy, and mining.
Mr. Zhou Hongyou of the Chinese Embassy praised the engagement, pointing out cultural and economic similarities between Guangxi and Nigeria, and expressed optimism about stronger collaboration in the future.
Responding, the NCSP Director-General pledged to lead a visit to Guangxi soon, stressing that Nigeria has much to learn from China’s model of large-scale modernization. He welcomed Guangxi as a new partner, alongside Hunan Province, and assured that NCSP would work with the delegation to identify immediate opportunities in manufacturing equipment, agriculture, and fruit production and processing.
