Ibeju-Lekki Chairman Assures Residents as Flooding Hits Parts of the Council Area

…Local Government Activates Emergency Response, Urges Residents in Affected Areas to Relocate Temporarily

Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos – Following the recent heavy downpours that have led to flooding in parts of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has issued a public advisory urging residents in affected communities to prioritize safety and, where necessary, relocate to higher ground or safe shelters.

In a statement released on Monday, the council boss acknowledged the hardship caused by the flood and reassured residents that the local government is taking decisive action to manage the situation.

“We understand the impact this flooding has had on our people, and we urge everyone in affected areas to remain calm and take precautionary measures for their safety,” Hon. Olowa stated.

To address the emergency, the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has activated its Flood Response Committee, tasked with coordinating relief efforts and deploying equipment to provide immediate support in affected areas.

According to the Chairman, the council is also working closely with relevant agencies of the Lagos State Government to develop long-term, sustainable solutions to the recurring flooding challenges in the region.

“While temporary measures are being taken to bring relief, we are equally committed to lasting solutions that will prevent future occurrences. We are fully on top of the situation and will continue to monitor developments closely,” the Chairman assured.

Residents were also commended for their cooperation and resilience during this difficult time, with the council urging continued vigilance and patience as recovery efforts progress.

The local government emphasized that safeguarding lives remains its utmost priority and that no effort will be spared in protecting citizens from the adverse effects of the ongoing flood.
