Lagos Police Arrest Notorious ‘One Chance’ Kingpin, Recover Minibus and Weapons

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious ‘one chance’ kingpin and two members of his gang, bringing an end to a string of violent robberies that have terrorized commuters across the state.

The suspects — Bode Oludayisin (53), Michael Sowunmi (22), and David Olawaye (20) — were nabbed by operatives of Ikeja Division during a routine patrol along Agege Motor Road, following a distress call from a victim being robbed inside the gang’s operational minibus.

Police investigations confirmed that Oludayisin, one of those arrested, is a wanted leader of a syndicate linked to multiple ‘one chance’ robberies in Lagos.

Recovered from the suspects were an unregistered commercial minibus (their operational vehicle), a stolen Tecno Spark 20 smartphone, an axe, concrete interlock bricks, heavy stones suspected to have been used in past assaults, and a broken bottle. All items have been registered as exhibits.

Findings revealed that the gang’s modus operandi involved using commercial minibuses, popularly known as Korope, to pose as regular transporters. Unsuspecting passengers were picked from busy hubs like Oshodi, then diverted to secluded areas where they were robbed under threats and violence.

The Command’s Special Squad 1 has now taken over the case to track down other fleeing members and fully dismantle the criminal network.

Commending the swift action of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unmarked or suspicious vehicles, and promptly report criminal activities to the police.

Emergency lines provided by the Command are: 08063299264, 09168631003.
