MediServe Provides Free Eye Screening, Glasses to Elderly, Lagos Drivers

Lagos, August 30, 2025 – A youth-led health initiative, MediServe, has taken healthcare support to the grassroots with a free eye screening and medical outreach for elderly citizens and commercial drivers in Lagos.

The programme, held at Ewenla Bus Park in Oshodi, offered free eye tests and promised free corrective glasses to beneficiaries who required them. Over 50 senior citizens and drivers participated in the initiative, which was supported by Nigeria’s leading private healthcare provider, MeCure.

MediServe, co-founded by Soleeha Musa-Etiko, Joy Ogunsan, and Tamilore Adeigbie, with members Precious Adiatu, Michelle Ossai, and Oluwaseun Ogunsan, is led by young, all-female high school students aspiring to become healthcare professionals.

Consultant ophthalmologist at MeCure Eye Center, Dr. Sunday Alabi, described the outreach as a vital intervention for senior citizens and drivers whose work depends heavily on good eyesight.

“This programme targets elderly people with eye conditions in the central park. The students behind it are not only learning but also giving back to society. Their impact will go beyond this motor park to communities across Nigeria,” Dr. Alabi said, stressing the importance of early detection of eye problems.

Sharing her motivation, MediServe founder, Soleeha Musa-Etiko, said the project was born out of her passion for medicine and desire to help people in need.

“This screening will assist drivers in seeing clearly while driving, reducing road accidents and making the community safer. Beyond this, we plan to expand our outreach to cover other areas of healthcare,” she said.

Co-founder, Joy Ogunsan, added that the initiative also aims to inspire young girls. “MediServe is youth-led and committed to sustainable healthcare. We want to show that young people, especially girls, can take action and make an impact,” she stated.

Special guests at the event included the CEO of Executive Trainer Ltd, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajoke Ogunsan, alongside parents of the student-founders and leaders of the bus park. The Chairman of the park and its Treasurer, Sowunmi Kolawole, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention for people who cannot afford hospital care.

Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation. One participant, Mrs. Akerele Omowunmi, said: “I’ve been having eye complaints, and when I heard it was MediServe and MeCure organizing this, I came. They attended to us for free and promised glasses. I’m very grateful to these young ladies and pray they grow higher in their chosen profession.”

With its successful debut, MediServe says it is committed to expanding its outreach, deepening healthcare impact, and inspiring more young people to initiate community-based solutions.
