Oyo Govt Dismisses Closure Rumours, Says Bola Ige Business Complex Remains Open

The Oyo State Government has dismissed rumours suggesting that the Bola Ige International Business Complex, Gbagi, Ibadan, would be shut down on Monday, assuring traders and the public that commercial activities will continue without disruption.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, August 24, 2025, in Ibadan by the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi.

Adebisi described the rumours as false, baseless, and the handiwork of mischief-makers bent on causing unnecessary tension in the state’s largest business hub.

“The Bola Ige International Business Complex remains a hub of commercial activities in Oyo State, and at no point did the government contemplate shutting it down,” the Commissioner said. “We urge traders and the public to disregard this misleading information being spread by unscrupulous elements whose aim is to disrupt peace and normal business operations. Normal activities will continue without any hindrance on Monday and beyond.”

Addressing reports of alleged exploitation within the complex, Adebisi noted that government is aware of cases where some shop owners lease out spaces in front of their shops to petty traders for personal gain. He assured that the administration is taking steps to regulate such practices in a fair and balanced way to safeguard the interests of all categories of traders.

He emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment for commerce and will not take any action that could cripple business activities in the state.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olajide Okesade, reaffirmed the government’s position, adding that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to maintain peace and order within the complex.

“The Ministry wishes to assure all traders, customers, and stakeholders that there will be no closure of the Bola Ige International Business Complex on Monday,” Okesade stated. “The rumour is unfounded, and everyone should go about their normal business without fear. The government remains committed to protecting the interests of traders and ensuring the smooth running of all markets and business complexes across the state.”

The statement, e-signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, appealed to members of the public to disregard unfounded rumours and rely only on verified information from relevant government authorities.
