Sanwo-Olu Approves Leadership Retraining for LASTMA Senior Officers

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved an intensive retraining programme for senior officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), aimed at strengthening leadership competence and aligning the agency’s operations with international best practices.

The five-day executive leadership and capacity development programme, which kicked off on Monday at Oshodi, covers all 50 zonal heads and 82 principal officers of the agency. The initiative follows the retraining of over 3,000 frontline LASTMA operatives earlier in the year as part of the administration’s reforms in the transportation sector.

According to the state government, the programme is designed to enhance managerial efficiency, ethical leadership, and evidence-based decision-making among senior command officers while improving traffic management across Lagos.

Speaking at the opening session, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the governor for what he described as a strategic investment in the agency’s human capital. He said the training would strengthen operational efficiency, improve public confidence, and ensure better service delivery.

“The training modules include job description and performance management, organisational leadership, incident management, conflict resolution with emotional intelligence, effective communication, stress management, and ethical standards,” Bakare-Oki stated.

Also speaking, the Director of Training and Human Capacity Development at LASTMA, Mr. Akinpelu Ayuba, said continuous retraining was vital to unlocking the full potential of the agency’s personnel. He urged motorists to comply with traffic rules and engage LASTMA officers with civility and respect to ensure a safer and more orderly motoring environment.
