Senator Abiru Leads Deputy Senate President, Top Politicians to Celebrate Ayangbure’s 10th Coronation Anniversary



Ikorodu, Lagos – It was a historic and colourful celebration in Ikorodu as Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East) led an array of dignitaries, including the Deputy Senate President, Senator (Dr.) Barau Jibrin, CON, CFR, to the grand finale of the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi.


The event, held at the Ikorodu Musical Village, drew political leaders, traditional rulers, and eminent personalities from across the country to honour the monarch, who is also the paramount ruler of Ikorodu Division.


In his keynote remarks as chairman of the occasion, Senator Barau described Oba Shotobi’s reign as “visionary, courageous, and progressive,” crediting him with transforming Ikorodu into a hub of peace, culture, and economic growth.


“Ten years on the throne is not merely a count of days, but a measure of impact,” Barau said. “You have preserved treasured traditions, advanced your people’s welfare, and strengthened the place of traditional institutions in our national governance framework.”


He also praised the monarch’s advocacy for constitutional roles for traditional rulers and commended Ikorodu’s representation at the national level, singling out Senator Abiru as “a shining example” whose legislative and developmental contributions have brought pride to the division.


Barau highlighted Abiru’s sponsorship of key bills, including the Nigerian Insurance Reform Bill recently signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the Copyright Act. He also referenced Abiru’s role in facilitating major road rehabilitation projects such as the 34km Ikorodu–Itoikin Road and the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road.


The Deputy Senate President further lauded Abiru’s philanthropic interventions through the SAIL Empowerment Foundation and its SAIL Innovation Lab, which has trained thousands of youths in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, helping them secure decent jobs and build thriving enterprises.


In his goodwill message, Senator Abiru described Oba Shotobi as “a beacon of wisdom, peace, unity, and development,” noting that his reign since 2015 has ushered in a golden era of cultural renaissance, socio-economic growth, and political stability in Ikorodu Division. He also hailed Senator Barau as “a man of sterling character and unblemished public service record,” stressing that his presence underscored the national respect commanded by the Ayangbure.


The colourful ceremony featured cultural displays, royal processions, and tributes from fellow monarchs, political leaders, and community stakeholders, all affirming Oba Shotobi’s legacy as a custodian of peace and progress.


Among the dignitaries in attendance were Lagos First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, who represented First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; House of Representatives member, Babajimi Benson; and Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN.
