Soludo’s ANSEC Approves Water Projects for Nkwo Umunze, Tertiary Institutions in Anambra

Awka, Anambra State – August 3, 2025

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities for Nkwo Umunze and surrounding communities in a major push to address water supply challenges in the area.

This was one of the key decisions taken at the 17th ANSEC meeting held on July 30, 2025, at the Light House, Awka. According to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the move is part of the government’s broader strategy to make Anambra a more liveable and healthy environment for all.

In addition to the Nkwo Umunze project, the Council also approved the installation of WASH facilities at the Chief Jerome Udoji State Secretariat in Awka to enhance the well-being of civil servants operating from the complex.

As part of efforts to improve access to clean water in tertiary institutions, ANSEC gave the green light for the construction of a solar-powered borehole and rehabilitation of five existing non-functional boreholes at the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. Similarly, a hybrid power-driven water supply system will be provided for Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.

“These interventions are in line with Governor Soludo’s comprehensive urban regeneration agenda aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and creating a healthier and more resilient state,” Dr. Mefor said.

He added that these projects reflect the administration’s vision of turning Anambra into the “Dubai-Silicon Valley” of Nigeria, where innovation, infrastructure, and human capital development are key drivers of growth.

The Soludo administration has earned widespread praise, including commendations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Anambra indigenes at home and abroad, for its progressive reforms and tangible achievements across multiple sectors.

In the area of security, the government has bolstered the state's defense architecture through initiatives like Agunechemba, technology-driven policing, and the Operation Udo Ga-Achi security outfit. The administration is also transforming infrastructure through extensive road construction and urban renewal projects.

In education, over 8,000 teachers have been recruited, public schools are undergoing reform, and free education has been introduced. The health sector has witnessed the construction and upgrading of general hospitals, employment of medical personnel, and the provision of free antenatal care for women.

On the economic front, the Soludo-led government is attracting new investments, promoting industrialization, and empowering young people through digital training and innovation-based human capital development.
