Transparency Group Demands Response from NNPCL Boss Over Corruption Allegations

ABUJA – The Nigerian Transparency Initiative (NTI) has called on the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Bayo Ojulari, to publicly address the corruption allegations recently linked to his office.

The group warned that the controversies surrounding Ojulari’s leadership were too serious to be ignored, stressing that continued silence could further fuel public suspicion and weaken confidence in the operations of the national oil company.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its coordinator, Muyiwa Salami, NTI said the allegations, if left unanswered, could damage the reputation of NNPCL and erode trust in the wider oil and gas sector.

“We call on Mr. Bayo Ojulari to answer these allegations in clear terms. Failure to do so will only suggest that there is something to hide,” the statement read.

NTI acknowledged that some stakeholders have dismissed the allegations as political blackmail, but argued that the consistency and scale of the reports make accountability imperative.

“It is in Ojulari’s own interest, and in the interest of Nigerians, that he speaks up. Transparency is the only way to clear the air and preserve the integrity of his office,” Salami added.

The group also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant agencies to intensify investigations into the matter, stressing that Nigerians deserve full disclosure on issues involving billions of naira in public funds.
