Head of Press and Public Relations at the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, has paid an emotional tribute to the late Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, describing his death as a personal and institutional loss that has left him deeply shaken.

In a heartfelt message, Ani recalled that the news of Arase’s passing last week Sunday was met with disbelief, panic, and prayers for divine intervention. “I am really finding it difficult to believe you are no more. You were just too good to exit now,” he lamented.

Ani praised Arase’s leadership, noting that he took over the Commission when it was “on its knees” and within a year restored its dignity, direction, and hope. He said Arase’s brief but impactful tenure remains one of the best seasons for the Commission.

Reflecting on his personal relationship with the late chairman, Ani recounted how Arase supported him at a time when pressure mounted to drop him as the Commission’s spokesperson. “At my birthday in 2023, you sent me a message that made me cry. You said: ‘IK, thanks for keeping the flame aglow for the Commission. I was right, they were wrong about you,’” Ani recalled, adding that Arase later publicly confessed he would have regretted removing him.

Ani described Arase as cerebral, organised, approachable, and humane, highlighting his habit of personally commending staff for good work and even extending appreciation to their families. He noted that the late chairman combined kindness with discipline, insisting that tasks must always be executed promptly and properly.

“I have really lost a boss of inestimable value who first saw me as a human being and encouraged me to give my best,” Ani said. “You left indelible footprints on the sands of time. Your death is sobering, but it is not how long but how well. You will forever remain in my heart.”

Arase, who also served as a former Inspector-General of Police, was widely regarded as a reformist leader dedicated to repositioning the PSC and enhancing police accountability.

Ani concluded his tribute with a solemn farewell: “Good night, boss, and may God decorate your soul with heavenly blessings.”
