Colour, Glamour as TCIP Command Decorates Promoted Officers

The Conference Hall of the Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) was filled to capacity as officers, relatives, friends, and journalists gathered to witness the decoration of officers recently elevated to new ranks. 

The colourful ceremony, which featured promotions ranging from Deputy Comptrollers to junior ranks, was presided over by the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka. He was assisted by Comptroller Joseph Anani of the Ports and Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Command, Comptroller Istifanus Musa, other senior officers, and family members of the honorees.

In his remarks, Comptroller Onyeka congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said. “About 87% of officers from this Command who sat for the promotion examination passed and have now been promoted. This is very encouraging.”

According to him, a total of 187 officers from the Tin Can Island Port Command benefited from the exercise.

The Customs Board had recently approved the promotion of 3,312 senior officers across the Service, from the rank of Comptroller of Customs (CC) to Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASC II). Commands nationwide have since commenced decoration ceremonies for their newly promoted officers.

Highlighting the Command’s performance, Comptroller Onyeka disclosed that the TCIP Command generated over ₦159 billion in August 2025, attributing the feat to the effective deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, codenamed B’Odogwu.

“B’Odogwu has come to stay, and it has served us all well,” he emphasized.

In a show of empathy, the CAC also addressed officers who were not promoted, encouraging them to remain steadfast.

“I joined the Service in 1991, and while some of my squad mates are now Assistant Comptroller-Generals, I remain a Comptroller. Still, I am grateful to God for where I am today,” he said.

The event climaxed with the formal decoration of the officers, beginning with Deputy Comptroller Olisa Alumona, and concluded with a celebratory reception where guests were treated to food and refreshments.
