CP Olohundare Jimoh Warns Lagos Officers Against Extortion, Rights Violations

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has warned officers under his command against acts of extortion, harassment, human rights violations, and the unprofessional practice of name-calling, especially against youths.

The warning was issued during a strategic security meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders in Lagos, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

In a statement released by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Commissioner emphasized that all officers must carry out their duties with respect for the rights and dignity of citizens.

According to him, crime prevention must be done “with a human face” and should never subject residents, particularly youths, to unnecessary hardship.

CP Jimoh specifically cautioned against the illegal practice of stopping young people on the road to check and search their phones, noting that such conduct is prohibited except in cases where phones are established exhibits in ongoing investigations. He stressed that even then, such searches should only be conducted within a police station and in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner also used the meeting to highlight the Command’s recent operational successes, including:

• The arrest of Samsideen Oladiti a.k.a. Shameleon, linked to two violent crimes.
• The capture of Jude Onouha, a notorious vehicle vandal who disguised as a security officer to infiltrate residential estates.
• The arrest of John Samuel, an ex-convict, armed robber, and hired assassin, who was apprehended for armed robbery and attempted murder while trying to dispossess a victim of gold jewelry worth millions of naira.

CP Jimoh commended his officers for these achievements while calling on residents to continue supporting the police with credible information that will help secure lives and property across Lagos State.

“These successes reflect the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents,” he said.
