Governor Soludo Honoured with Triple Global Awards at UNGA 80

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has earned global recognition at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, securing three prestigious honours that underscore his rising international profile.

Governor Soludo received the African Public Service Excellence Award, the African Governor of the Year Award, and a Special Recognition Certificate from the South Carolina House of Representatives in the United States.

The honours, presented during the 2025 Global Power Forum held on the sidelines of UNGA, highlighted his exceptional leadership, reforms in governance, and commitment to sustainable development.

“These awards are clear validation of the purposeful leadership Governor Soludo has brought to Anambra State. They represent international acknowledgment of his transformative governance at home,” said his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.

At the Forum, Soludo was also featured as a keynote speaker at the International Forum on Africa-Caribbean Leadership. His address, “Africa Unleashed: Navigating the Disruptions, Enhancing Opportunities – the Anambra State Example,” showcased Anambra as a model for resilience, innovation, and economic transformation.

The event attracted a distinguished audience including former Tanzanian President Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, Prime Minister Philip Davis of The Bahamas, President Sylvanie Burton of Dominica, former Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister Dr. Judith Suminwa Tuluka of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and African Development Bank Secretary-General Prof. Vincent O. Nmehielle.

The South Carolina House of Representatives commendation particularly lauded Soludo’s career trajectory — from a globally acclaimed economics professor to Chief Economic Adviser under President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and now chief executive of Anambra State. The resolution praised his pivotal role in “elevating Nigeria to the status of an African financial powerhouse.”

Back home, the Governor has faced criticism from some quarters over state performance ratings. However, his administration has consistently defended its record, pointing to ongoing reforms, infrastructure development, fiscal prudence, digital economy initiatives, and security strategies.

The latest global accolades, observers note, place Anambra on the international stage as a state charting a new course for subnational governance in Africa.
