LASTMA Nabs Hit-and-Run Driver After Accident at Ogudu Flyover

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has arrested the driver of a Nissan Jeep who attempted to flee after hitting a pedestrian along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, just after the Ogudu flyover inward Ifako.

The vehicle, with registration number KJA 354 ET, was said to have been driven recklessly at high speed while trying to overtake a fully loaded 40-foot container truck. The dangerous maneuver led to the driver losing control, knocking down a male pedestrian before crashing into the expressway’s central median.

Instead of assisting the injured victim, the driver reportedly attempted to escape but was intercepted by LASTMA operatives stationed in the area. The officers also facilitated the rescue and evacuation of the pedestrian, who sustained critical injuries, for urgent medical attention.

The suspect was handed over to officers at the Ogudu Police Division, while the damaged vehicle was towed to the station for investigation.

Despite the incident occurring close to the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ogudu–Ifako bridge intersections, LASTMA officials worked swiftly to manage the situation and prevent traffic congestion.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended his officers for their professionalism and quick response. He warned motorists against excessive speeding and reckless driving, stressing that such conduct puts not only drivers but also pedestrians and other road users at serious risk.

Bakare-Oki advised motorists to ensure the road is clear and safe before attempting overtaking or diversions, while reaffirming LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives, enforcing traffic discipline, and ensuring orderliness across Lagos roads.
