LASTMA Nabs Togolese Driver After Fatal Speeding Crash at Adeniji Adele Intersection

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Monday apprehended a Togolese driver following a speed-related crash that left a pedestrian critically injured at the Adeniji Adele Intersection, inward Ilubirin, Lagos Island.

The suspect, who was driving a Mazda car with registration number EPE 749 GS, reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving at high speed and rammed into a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road. Witnesses said the impact flung the victim to the ground, leaving him unconscious and bleeding.

Instead of stopping to help, the driver allegedly tried to escape the scene with the vehicle. However, LASTMA officials on duty pursued and intercepted him before handing him over to officers at the Adeniji Adele Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), activated by LASTMA, rushed the injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where doctors are battling to save his life.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, warned motorists against reckless driving and overspeeding, which he described as “a leading cause of avoidable tragedies on Lagos roads.”

He expressed sympathy to the victim and wished him a speedy recovery while reiterating LASTMA’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring orderliness across the state’s transportation corridors.
