Nigeria Backs China’s Global Governance Initiative

Abuja — The Federal Republic of Nigeria has officially endorsed the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) introduced by Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing it as a framework that reflects fairness, inclusivity, and shared progress in the international system.

The endorsement was announced in Abuja by the Director General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Mr. Joseph Tegbe, who conveyed the message on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Government of Nigeria.

According to Mr. Tegbe, the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic revitalization, social inclusion, and global engagement. He noted that the GGI’s guiding principles—sovereign equality, adherence to international law, and multilateralism—resonate strongly with Nigeria’s foreign policy direction.

He further highlighted Nigeria’s long-standing advocacy for Africa’s permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council, as well as the country’s leadership in peacekeeping, transparent dispute resolution, and regional cooperation through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the UN.

Beyond policy alignment, Tegbe emphasized the practical opportunities the GGI offers Nigeria, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and industrial development. He pointed to the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, which targets broadband expansion, fintech growth, and youth empowerment, as areas where Nigeria stands to benefit from deeper cooperation under the initiative.

“The Global Governance Initiative is more than a vision, it is a call to action,” Tegbe said. “Nigeria stands ready to work with China and other partners to translate this initiative into tangible progress for our citizens, for Africa, and for the world.”
