Dangote Cement Commissions ₦270 Billion Plant in Côte d'Ivoire — A Major Boost for West Africa’s Industrial Growth

Dangote Cement Plc, a subsidiary of the Dangote Group founded by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has officially commissioned its new state-of-the-art cement plant in Attingué, Côte d'Ivoire — about 30 kilometres from Abidjan.

The plant, which sits on a 50-hectare site, represents a strategic investment worth 100 billion CFA francs (approximately ₦270 billion) and boasts an annual production capacity of three million metric tonnes. It is one of Dangote Cement’s largest plants outside Nigeria, underscoring the company’s commitment to driving Africa’s industrial self-sufficiency.

Speaking at a press conference held at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory, the Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Serge Gbotta, described the new facility as “more than an industrial unit — it is a symbol of confidence in Côte d'Ivoire’s future.”

He added that the company’s goal is to deliver “world-class cement produced locally and offered at competitive prices,” helping to meet the country’s growing construction demands while reducing dependence on imports.

With the commissioning of the Attingué plant, Côte d'Ivoire becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production unit. The plant contributes to the group’s continental production capacity of 55 million tonnes per annum and is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing significant support to local youth, transporters, artisans, and small businesses.

The company also announced plans to train young engineers and technicians through the Dangote Academy, aimed at strengthening local expertise in industrial and technical management.

According to the Commercial Director, Mr. Stéphane Tchimou, the facility will play a pivotal role in Côte d'Ivoire’s construction sector. “Reliable, high-performance cement is essential for masons, contractors, and craftsmen,” he said. “Our distribution network will ensure nationwide availability, while our credit and support schemes will empower small retailers across the value chain.”

Beyond its industrial operations, Dangote Cement is investing in community development around the Attingué site, including road projects, clean water initiatives, and support for local health centres — all in partnership with local authorities and NGOs.

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, reaffirmed the company’s long-term vision for Africa’s economic independence. “Africa is full of opportunities,” he said. “Our mission is to tell a new story — one of innovation, production, and progress for future generations.”

The Attingué plant will produce premium cement in multiple grades, including CPJ 32.5R for masonry, CPJ 42.5N for buildings, and CPA 52.5 for large-scale infrastructure. Built with cutting-edge technology, the facility is expected to significantly cut cement imports and position Côte d'Ivoire as a regional hub for cement production and export.
