Dangote Group Denies Ownership of Truck Involved in Akungba-Akoko Accident
The Dangote Group has dismissed reports linking it to a truck involved in a fatal accident in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company described the reports circulating on social media and some online platforms as false and misleading, clarifying that the vehicle in question does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.
According to the company, verified registration details show that the truck, with plate number JJJ 365 XB, is owned and operated by an independent logistics company with no connection whatsoever to the Dangote Group.
“The truck involved in the unfortunate incident was not carrying any Dangote products. It was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks that bore different brand names,” the statement read.
Dangote Industries explained that all its trucks are properly branded, numbered, and tracked under strict fleet management and safety policies, making them easily identifiable.
“For the avoidance of doubt, all genuine Dangote trucks carry distinct company markings and fleet numbers, and are driven by trained personnel under stringent safety and compliance standards,” the company noted.
While expressing sympathy to the victims and families affected by the accident, the company urged the public and media outlets to always verify information before attributing ownership or involvement to the Dangote Group.
It also appealed to journalists and social media users to avoid using images of Dangote-branded trucks in connection with accidents or incidents unrelated to its operations.
Dangote Industries reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible corporate practices across all its operations within and outside Nigeria.
