Glo Foundation Empowers Schoolgirls on International Day of the Girl Child

The social empowerment arm of telecommunications giant, Globacom, Glo Foundation, last Friday celebrated the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with a series of inspiring and educational activities for hundreds of secondary school girls across Nigeria.

The Foundation organized a symbolic walk and movie session to mark the occasion, engaging 100 girls selected from five secondary schools in Lagos — Queen’s College, Sabo-Yaba; Herbert Macaulay Girls Senior High School, Yaba; Kuramo Senior College, Victoria Island; Victoria Island Secondary School; and Vivian Fowler Memorial College, Oregun, Ikeja.

The students were hosted at Globacom’s corporate headquarters, Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island, where they had an interactive mentorship session with senior female executives of the company.

Welcoming the girls, Mrs. Mojisola Ashieru Sweet, Globacom’s Director of Strategy and Board Affairs, urged them to be proud of their identities, confident in their abilities, and committed to achieving excellence in their chosen careers.

Also speaking, the company’s Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Jumoke Aduwo, encouraged the students to cultivate hard work, discipline, and integrity as key values that will help them overcome life’s challenges and attain success.

Following the mentorship session, the girls embarked on a symbolic walk from Mike Adenuga Towers to the company’s Customer Care and Information Systems departments on Ahmadu Bello Way, where they were introduced to the basics of telecommunications operations.

The activities continued at Silverbird Cinema, where the students watched a Nollywood movie titled “The Serpent’s Gift,” starring Linda Ejiofor and Chico Aligwejwe. The film session was followed by an engaging discussion, during which the girls shared key lessons and insights from the movie, helping to build their confidence and public speaking skills.

The event was simultaneously held in Abuja, Kaduna, Owerri, Port Harcourt, and Benin City, where students from selected schools participated in similar mentorship and movie sessions hosted by Glo offices in the respective cities.

Through this initiative, Glo Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the girl child with confidence, vision, and a sense of purpose, while inspiring them to dream big and achieve greatness.
