Lagos Police Arrest Boxer for Fatal Punch in Ikorodu Altercation

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Rasheed Adedeji, popularly known as Bintin, for allegedly punching an artisan, Sefiu Ajao, to death in the Adamo area of Ikorodu.

The suspect, described by residents as an unlicensed boxer, reportedly attacked the deceased following a dispute over a damaged football belonging to his son.

According to police sources, the tragic incident occurred on October 24, 2025, at about 11:26 a.m., shortly after both men had left the palace of the Baale of Adamo, where a peace settlement had just been reached. The traditional ruler had successfully mediated between the two men, with Ajao agreeing to replace the punctured football.

Eyewitnesses said that despite the resolution, Adedeji allegedly trailed Ajao on the road and delivered several heavy punches to his forehead. The victim reportedly collapsed and was rushed to Agbowa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, immediately ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. Detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, have since taken over the case.

Police forensic experts were also deployed to the crime scene as part of efforts to ensure a comprehensive investigation. The suspect is currently in custody at the SCID, while an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Sources within the command noted similarities between this case and a previous incident involving another boxer, Shamsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, who was arrested and charged with murder in September 2025 for allegedly killing multiple victims in Lagos Island.

Meanwhile, CP Jimoh reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for crime and violence, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands. He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to provide timely and credible information to the police to aid security operations across the state.
