Lagos police assure residents of safety amid nationwide protest alert …CP Jimoh leads officers in confidence-building ‘show of force’ exercise
The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents of their safety and peace of mind despite reports of protests in other parts of the country. On Monday, October 20, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Moshood Jimoh, led a large-scale ‘show of force’ operation across strategic locations in the state to demonstrate the Command’s preparedness to maintain law and order, the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) reports.
Speaking during the exercise in Ikeja, CP Jimoh said the operation was designed to boost public confidence and reassure Lagosians that the state remains safe and secure.
“This operation seeks to instill confidence in the public and reassure all Lagosians of their safety. We want everyone to go about their lawful businesses without fear,” he stated.
The police commissioner noted that while demonstrations were reported in some parts of the country, there were no such activities in Lagos.
“We are aware of protests taking place in certain areas outside Lagos, but I can confidently inform you that there are no protests here. We have deployed our personnel strategically across key locations such as Ikeja Underbridge, Maryland, Ojota, Lekki Tollgate, and other local communities to ensure peace and prevent any form of disruption,” he added.
CP Jimoh cautioned individuals and groups against any attempt to take the law into their own hands, warning that unauthorized protests and acts capable of disturbing public order would not be tolerated.
“Calling for protests that disrupt the daily lives of students, business owners, and those seeking essential services is unacceptable. We will not allow anyone to jeopardize the peace Lagos enjoys,” he warned.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, noting that situation reports are monitored closely and, as of Monday, there had been no recorded protest in any part of Lagos.
The police commissioner was accompanied by the commanders of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Task Force, Tactical Squad, and other specialized units of the Command during the exercise.
