 LASTMA Commends Officer for Rejecting ₦20,000 Bribe in Okota

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commended one of its officers, Muibi Ademola (Bravo 27), for displaying exceptional integrity and professionalism by rejecting a ₦20,000 cash offer from a motorist at the Ago–Ibiwoye axis of Okota, Lagos.

According to a report published in The Nation newspaper on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, a motorist had drawn the officer’s attention to a developing traffic buildup in the area. In response, Officer Ademola quickly moved to the scene and successfully restored traffic flow within minutes through effective coordination and enforcement.

Impressed by the officer’s promptness and efficiency, the motorist reportedly offered him ₦20,000 as a token of appreciation. However, Ademola declined the gesture, stating that he was only carrying out his official duties for which he is adequately paid by the Lagos State Government.

Reacting to the development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised Officer Ademola’s conduct, describing it as a demonstration of integrity, discipline, and commitment to ethical standards.

“This exemplary behavior reflects the professionalism and values that LASTMA stands for,” Bakare-Oki said. “It also reinforces public confidence in our officers and aligns with the transparency, accountability, and service excellence being promoted under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.”

The LASTMA boss added that Ademola’s action embodies the moral reawakening and ethical reorientation being championed by the agency’s management to restore public trust and respect for traffic enforcement officers across Lagos State.

He encouraged all personnel to emulate Ademola’s example by upholding honesty, fairness, and dedication to service, noting that the agency will continue to recognize and reward officers who positively project the image of LASTMA and the Lagos State Government.

Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ongoing training, capacity building, and value-driven reforms aimed at fostering discipline, civility, and operational excellence among its workforce.

In his remarks, Officer Muibi Ademola expressed gratitude to the management of LASTMA and the Lagos State Government for their support and consistent investment in personnel training, logistics, and welfare, which he said have motivated officers to perform their duties with integrity and professionalism.
