Rivers Police, POCACOV Launch Anti-Cultism and Drug Abuse Campaign to Curb Youth Involvement

The Rivers State Police Command, in partnership with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), has launched a far-reaching campaign aimed at tackling the growing menace of cultism and drug abuse among youths in the state.

The sensitization programme, held on October 3, 2025, at Community Secondary School, Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, brought together students, community leaders, and security stakeholders in a collective effort to promote peace, discipline, and academic excellence.

Themed “Cultism, Drug Abuse and My Academics,” the campaign focused on enlightening students about the dangers and long-term consequences of engaging in cult activities and substance abuse, while promoting a safe and conducive learning environment.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR, the initiative underscores the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents through proactive community engagement and preventive education.

Key speakers at the event included ASP Ogbuewe Captain, POCACOV Desk Officer and Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, who represented the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, psc, mnips; Amb. Patrick Akatakpo; and Engr. Chris Odorgbo.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, ASP Ogbuewe emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and education in curbing social vices, urging students to channel their energy towards productive goals that will benefit their communities and the nation.

He noted that the command will continue to collaborate with schools, parents, and relevant agencies to prevent the spread of cultism and drug abuse, as well as provide counseling and support services to affected individuals.

SP Iringe-Koko reaffirmed the police command’s resolve to sustain similar advocacy programmes across the state, stressing that the fight against cultism and drug abuse requires collective responsibility.

“The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to tackling social vices and ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all citizens,” she stated.

The event concluded with interactive sessions and pledges by students to remain focused on their studies and become ambassadors of peace in their communities.
