Glo, Imo State Seal Major Connectivity Deal to Drive Digital Transformation

Globacom has entered into a landmark internet connectivity agreement with the Imo State Government as part of the state’s strategic push to build a modern digital economy, strengthen e-governance systems, and develop a Smart City in Owerri.

The partnership, facilitated through the Ministry of Digital Economy and e-Governance, is described as the largest single fixed internet connectivity project ever undertaken by Globacom’s Enterprise Business Group—underscoring the company’s growing influence in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure landscape.

Under the agreement, Globacom will deliver high-capacity internet connectivity to critical state assets, including the Smart City project in Owerri, which comprises 15 mega buildings; the Ministry of Digital Economy and e-Governance; and the Imo State University for Innovation, Science and Technology, formerly Imo State Polytechnic.

The project will be powered by the Glo 1 submarine cable, Globacom’s privately owned international fibre optic network linking Nigeria directly to Europe. The cable provides high bandwidth, low latency, and enhanced security—key elements needed to support Imo State’s digital transformation and improve efficiency in public service delivery.

“We are honoured by the confidence reposed in Globacom by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma, and his team,” the company said. “This partnership is a testament to our technical capability, nationwide coverage, and proven efficiency in delivering enterprise-grade connectivity solutions. We will work closely with the State’s technical team to ensure timely delivery of the project.”

Globacom commended the Imo State Government for prioritising digital transformation, youth empowerment, and technology-driven governance. The company noted that sustained investment in digital infrastructure and youth-focused innovation programmes will create jobs, stimulate entrepreneurship, and drive long-term economic growth.

“Imo State is setting a remarkable example for other states in Nigeria by leveraging technology to improve governance, education, and business efficiency,” Globacom added. “This partnership aligns with our mission to power Nigeria’s digital future.”

With extensive fibre coverage across Nigeria and a robust network footprint in West Africa, Globacom continues to position itself as a leading provider of digital connectivity solutions for public and private sector institutions.

As digital transformation accelerates globally, the company urged other state governments—particularly across the South East—to adopt similar strategic partnerships in order to strengthen regional economies.

“The future belongs to states and nations that invest in technology and connectivity,” Globacom stated. “We encourage other governments to collaborate with us in building the digital infrastructure needed to power education, commerce, governance, and innovation.”

Globacom reaffirmed its commitment to providing world-class connectivity, top-tier service quality, and innovative digital solutions designed to help Nigerians excel in an increasingly interconnected world.
