Naval Chief Abbas Visits Niger Delta Commands, Reaffirms Troop Welfare and Anti–Oil Theft Drive

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has charged naval formations in the Niger Delta to intensify efforts against crude oil theft while ensuring the welfare of personnel remains a top priority.

Vice Admiral Abbas gave the directive on Tuesday during an operational briefing at the Headquarters of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He commended the resilience of troops involved in the multi-agency task force and urged the OPDS Commander to maintain momentum in safeguarding the nation’s maritime environment.

“The Navy will continue to support the OPDS,” the CNS assured, emphasizing sustained collaboration in tackling illegal activities on the waterways.

Following the briefing, the Naval Chief visited the Headquarters of the Central Naval Command (CNC), describing the formation as “home.” Vice Admiral Abbas previously served there as Command Administrative Officer, Chief Staff Officer, and later as Flag Officer Commanding (FOC).

“On the occasion of my first maiden visit to the command as CNS, I am highly delighted to be back ‘home’,” he said, reflecting on his years of service at the command.

He promised continued support to officers, ratings, and civilian staff, leveraging his deep knowledge of the command’s operations. The CNS praised the visible infrastructural improvements and overall aesthetics of the base, commending the current leadership.

“I am impressed with the giant strides in developmental projects within the Command HQ. I commend the FOC and his team for maintaining the aesthetics of the Base,” he noted.

Vice Admiral Abbas also expressed gratitude to personnel for their dedication and prayed for their protection as they carry out their duties.

The visit, marked by warmth and renewed commitment, signals the Navy’s sustained focus on operational effectiveness and personnel welfare under the current leadership.
