Aroyewun Hosts First Lady Sanwo-Olu, COWSOL Team at Women’s Rights Foundation in Igbogbo

Igbogbo, Lagos — The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday paid a working visit to the Community Women’s Rights Foundation (CWRF) in Selewu, Igbogbo, as part of ongoing statewide advocacy to protect women and girls from gender-based violence.

She was received by the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, and his wife, Mrs. Silifat Aroyewun, alongside members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWSOL).

The visit aligns with the sustained campaign championed by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and her Lagos counterpart to strengthen institutional and community-level responses to rape, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence.

Founded in 2011 by Mr. Lateef Akinborode, the Community Women’s Rights Foundation has grown into a frontline advocacy organisation providing critical services such as survivor support, case documentation, counseling, mediation, and assistance with police and court procedures to ensure justice for victims.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu commended Chairman Aroyewun and his wife for their commitment to social welfare and for creating an enabling environment that allows humanitarian initiatives to thrive within the council area. She applauded the administration’s efforts to prioritise the safety and well-being of vulnerable groups.

The First Lady also praised the director and volunteers of CWRF for their dedication and resilience in combating gender-based violence, describing their work as a lifeline to many survivors seeking justice and support.

In his remarks, Chairman Aroyewun expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her visit, noting that her presence represents a significant boost to the foundation and reinforces the council’s resolve to expand its support for gender justice. Mr. Akinborode also thanked the delegation for recognising the work of the organisation and encouraging its volunteers.

The IBLCDA chairman reiterated the council’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with civil society groups, adding that the fight against rape and violence against women will remain a top priority in the administration’s agenda.
