Baales of Eti-Osa, Eti-Osa East Chart Community-Led Solutions at Population, Infrastructure Symposium

Baales in Council of Eti-Osa Local Government and Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have called for stronger traditional leadership involvement in addressing population growth and infrastructure challenges, following a successful Symposium and Annual General Meeting held in Sangotedo, Lagos.

The meeting, which took place at Patron Hotel, was themed “Our Corridor: Addressing Population and Infrastructural Needs – The Roles of Baales.” Discussions centred on the pressures rapid urban expansion has placed on social amenities, housing, and public infrastructure within the Eti-Osa and Eti-Osa East axis.

Delivering the keynote lecture on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Conference 57 Chairman, Mr. Dayo Quadri emphasised the strategic importance of collaborative community leadership in managing development. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road project, describing it as a transformative intervention that would enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and unlock new growth opportunities across the Eti-Osa, Eti-Osa East, and Ibeju-Lekki corridors.

Mr. Quadri urged Baales from both councils to strengthen cooperation with their counterparts in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to ensure coordinated community engagement, peacebuilding, and sustainable development across shared boundaries.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of a Special Award of Recognition to selected individuals in acknowledgement of outstanding leadership, dedicated service, and sustained commitment to community development, reinforcing the relevance of traditional institutions in contemporary governance.

Baales from Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, led by the Chairman of the Baales in Council, Dr. Adekunle Taiwo, were in attendance alongside community leaders, government representatives, and other stakeholders. Participants unanimously stressed the need for continued partnership between traditional authorities and government at all levels in tackling grassroots challenges and promoting inclusive development.
