Ibeju-Lekki Chairman Launches Joint Task Force on Immunization, Vows Zero Tolerance for Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
In a major move to protect children’s health and eliminate vaccine-preventable illnesses, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has inaugurated the Ibeju-Lekki Joint Task Force on Immunization. The launch, held at the Local Government Secretariat, comes ahead of the Polio Inoculation Campaign scheduled from December 6 to 9, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to community health.
The ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including health officials, community leaders, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), League of Imams and Alfas, and members of the Community Development Committee (CDC). Hon. Olowa, expressing concern over rising communicable diseases, emphasized the critical role of immunization in building a resilient, disease-free community.
“Immunization is not just a health measure; it is a shield for our future generations. As we commence the Polio Inoculation Campaign, our Joint Task Force will enforce a zero-tolerance policy for any lapses in coverage. No child in Ibeju-Lekki will be left behind,” he stated.
He further highlighted the administration’s investments in primary healthcare infrastructure, including upgrades to the Iberekodo Primary Health Centre, as a foundation for strengthening immunization outreach.
At the event, Mrs. Unoroh Elizabeth Taiwo, Director of Nursing Services for Ibeju-Lekki, representing the Medical Officer for Health, Dr. Taiwo Shosanya, presented recent immunization achievements. According to her report, a total of 93,916 children have been inoculated across Ibeju-Lekki and Lekki LGAs, with 80,268 in Ibeju-Lekki, reflecting a significant improvement over previous campaigns. She attributed the successes to door-to-door outreach programs and the leadership support of Hon. Olowa, noting that the Outbreak Response (OBR) program thrived under his guidance.
The newly inaugurated Task Force will coordinate routine immunization drives, monitor coverage rates, oversee progress, address barriers to access, and collaborate with state and federal health agencies to ensure no child is left behind.
