Anambra Govt Debunks Sahara Reporters’ Claim Over Hospital Gates Contract

The Anambra State Government has dismissed as misleading a report by Sahara Reporters alleging irregularities in the award of a contract for the construction of gates at the General Hospital, Okpoko, and the Specialist Hospital, Fegge.

In a statement issued on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Law Mefor, clarified that the contract awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd. was not valued at ₦229 million as claimed in the report, but ₦123,217,218.82. He noted that the correct figure is publicly available and verifiable on the official e-portal of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

According to Mefor, the procurement process was carried out in strict compliance with due process, with the BPP and the Ministry of Health fully involved to ensure transparency and accountability. He added that the contractor was properly mobilised and has duly executed the project.

The commissioner expressed disappointment that Sahara Reporters failed to verify basic facts before publishing the story, despite the availability of accurate information on the BPP platform, describing the publication as questionable and misleading.

Reaffirming the state government’s position, Mefor said the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo remains unwavering in its commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.

He therefore categorically debunked the allegations, describing them as baseless and a misrepresentation of facts, and urged the public to disregard the report.
