 Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Flags Off Measles–Rubella Vaccination Exercise

The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA) has commenced the grassroots rollout of the Lagos State Government’s Measles–Rubella vaccination campaign, as part of efforts to strengthen child health and disease prevention across the state.

The exercise was officially flagged off on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Primary Health Centre, Igbogbo, marking IBLCDA’s participation in the state-wide introduction of the Measles–Rubella vaccine into the Routine Immunisation Programme. The campaign targets children aged nine months to 14 years, with the aim of preventing outbreaks of the highly contagious but vaccine-preventable diseases.

The initiative aligns with the GLORY Agenda of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA administration, particularly its Optimal Wellness pillar, which prioritises preventive healthcare, strengthened primary health services, and improved access to quality healthcare for residents.

At the state level, the vaccination campaign was earlier launched by the Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who underscored the importance of immunisation in safeguarding child health and urged parents and caregivers to support health officials to achieve wide coverage across the state.

Speaking at the IBLCDA flag-off ceremony, the Vice Chairman of the council, Barrister Ade Ayeni, who represented the Executive Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, described the vaccination exercise as a practical demonstration of the administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance and preventive healthcare delivery.

Ayeni noted that under Chairman Aroyewun’s leadership, health remains a core priority of the council, in line with the Optimal Wellness component of the GLORY Agenda, which focuses on disease prevention and the strengthening of primary healthcare at the community level.

Also speaking, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr Gideon Akande, assured parents and guardians of the safety and effectiveness of the Measles–Rubella vaccine, stressing that it is globally approved and critical to preventing serious childhood illnesses and complications. He reiterated that immunisation remains one of the most effective tools for reducing child morbidity and mortality.

In his remarks, Dr Saheed Atolagbe of the Department of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, Lagos State Ministry of Health, disclosed that the campaign is supported by robust planning, monitoring, and data-driven implementation strategies to ensure seamless delivery across all local governments and council development areas.

To ensure effective coverage within Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, trained health personnel have been deployed to primary health centres and designated community locations across the council area throughout the duration of the campaign.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Hakeem Solawon; Majority Leader, Hon. Habib Anifowose; Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Yusuf Bello; Chief Whip, Hon. Saidat Adeoba; Hon. Wasiu Olowu, Chief of Staff to the Chairman; representatives of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, led by Chief Sanni Jelili (Ayangade); members of the Adeboruwa-in-Council; the Iyalode of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Mrs Ojikutu Karimotu; community leaders; and other stakeholders.

The successful take-off of the vaccination exercise further underscores the commitment of the Chairman Aroyewun-led administration to promoting Optimal Wellness, while deepening collaboration with the Lagos State Government to secure a healthier future for children in Igbogbo/Baiyeku and beyond.
