Lagos Police Neutralise Threat to Ikeja Schools as CP Olohundare Jimoh Leads Emergency Security Operation
The Lagos State Police Command has swiftly neutralised a security threat directed at two prominent private schools in Ikeja, reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
According to the Command, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported at the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they received distress messages via WhatsApp from the same unknown number at about 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2026.
Upon receiving the reports, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately mobilised a high-powered team of police operatives and personally led the operation to the school premises. The team comprised experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other tactical units.
A thorough and painstaking security sweep of the entire school environment—including classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and adjoining areas—was conducted by the EOD-CBRN specialists to rule out the presence of any Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or other suspicious materials. No explosive or hazardous objects were found, and the schools were subsequently declared safe for academic and administrative activities.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensified investigation to trace, identify, and apprehend the individual or individuals responsible for sending the threat messages, with a view to prosecuting them in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed on a permanent basis to the schools to provide round-the-clock security for students, staff, and facilities.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured parents, guardians, school authorities, and the general public that it remains proactive and fully committed to maintaining peace, safety, and public order across the state.
