LASG, FG to Construct 132/33kV Eleko Injection Substation to Boost Power Supply in Ibeju-Lekki

The Lagos State Government (LASG), in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), has concluded plans to construct a 132/33kV Injection Substation at Eleko, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, as part of efforts to significantly improve electricity supply across the axis.

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, disclosed this on Monday, January 19, 2026, after attending a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting on the Ibeju-Lekki Power Systems Improvement Project held at the Lagos State Ministry of Energy, Alausa.

The project, facilitated by the Lagos State Ministry of Energy, is being sponsored by FGN Power Company Limited, with technical and institutional support from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.

Following the meeting, Hon. Olowa joined the project team on an inspection tour of the Ajah Transmission Station, where officials conducted him around key facilities. The team later proceeded to the Chairman’s office in Igando Oloja before embarking on a final inspection of the proposed substation site at Eleko Junction.

According to officials, the project’s first phase will deliver a dedicated 132/33kV injection substation connecting Ajah to Eleko through a dedicated transmission line. A 132/33kV injection substation serves as a critical power facility that receives electricity at 132 kilovolts from the national transmission grid and steps it down to 33 kilovolts for regional and community distribution.

When completed, the substation is expected to significantly enhance power capacity, stabilize electricity supply, and reconnect long-neglected communities in Ibeju-Lekki to the national grid, thereby addressing years of inadequate power supply in the area.

Stakeholders noted that improved electricity supply would stimulate economic activities, boost small and medium-scale enterprises, enhance healthcare and educational services, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

Hon. Olowa expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for their commitment to the project. He also commended the Lagos State Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources, Engr. Abiola Olowu, and other stakeholders for their sustained support and technical contributions toward the realization of the project.

The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and sustainable infrastructure that would position Ibeju-Lekki as a strategic growth corridor in Lagos State.
