LASTMA Says Viral Video of Officials, Uber Driver Is Old and Misleading

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed as misleading a resurfaced video currently circulating on social media, which allegedly shows an altercation between its officials and a ride-hailing driver.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Authority clarified that the video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle @dammiedammi with the caption “God bless you,” is not a recent incident and does not reflect current operations or conduct within the Agency.

According to LASTMA, the incident originally occurred on February 11, 2023, and had already been fully investigated and resolved at the time.

“The matter immediately attracted the attention of the Agency when it first surfaced in 2023,” the statement said. “In line with LASTMA’s commitment to transparency, equity, and accountability, a comprehensive investigation was promptly conducted.”

The Agency disclosed that the LASTMA officials identified in the video were summoned and subjected to thorough interrogation. Following the investigation, officials found to have breached operational guidelines were disciplined in accordance with the Public Service Rules in 2023.

LASTMA expressed concern over the renewed circulation of the footage, describing it as regrettable and capable of misleading the public by presenting a resolved case as a current occurrence.

“The resurfacing of this video without context and its presentation as a fresh incident is misleading and has the potential to unfairly malign the image of the Agency,” the statement noted.

The Authority urged members of the public, motorists, and other stakeholders to disregard the recirculated video, stressing that it bears no relevance to present realities and does not reflect the final outcome of the matter.

While reaffirming its respect for freedom of expression, LASTMA cautioned against the deliberate recirculation of resolved incidents in a manner that incites public outrage or undermines institutional credibility without any new facts.

Meanwhile, the Agency commended Lagos residents, particularly motorists, for their cooperation and compliance during its “LASTMA 24-Hour Night Gangs” operations carried out across the state during the 2025 “Detty December” period.

LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, humane traffic management, and continuous public enlightenment in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities across Lagos State.
