LIRS Extends Deadline for Filing Employers’ Annual Returns to February 7
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a one-week extension of the deadline for the filing of employers’ annual tax returns, moving it from February 1 to February 7, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, explained that although the statutory deadline for filing employers’ annual returns remains January 31 each year, the extension was granted to allow employers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.
Dr. Subair stressed the importance of timely compliance, noting that the filing of annual returns should be embedded as a routine business practice among employers in the state.
He reiterated that electronic submission via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for filing annual returns, as manual submissions have been completely phased out. Employers are therefore required to file exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal at https://etax.lirs.net.
Describing the platform as secure, user-friendly and accessible 24 hours a day, Dr. Subair advised employers to ensure that the Tax Identification Number (TaxID) of all employees is correctly captured during submission.
