NCC Seeks Industry Input on Telecom Market Competition
In a move to reassess the competitive landscape of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to engage industry stakeholders in a consultative forum aimed at shaping future regulatory interventions.
The forum, scheduled to hold on January 13, 2025, in Lagos, will bring together key industry operators, policymakers and other stakeholders to deliberate on competition issues within the country’s fast-evolving telecoms sector.
The competition assessment is being conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which was engaged by the NCC to carry out an independent, evidence-based review of the industry. The study examines market structure, competitive dynamics and the effectiveness of existing regulatory frameworks in the telecommunications space.
According to the Commission, the consultative forum will provide an opportunity to review preliminary findings from the study, receive stakeholder feedback and refine regulatory strategies aimed at promoting fair competition, innovation and consumer protection.
The NCC has also invited industry stakeholders and members of the public to submit written contributions ahead of the forum. Submissions should be sent via email to competitionstudy2025@ncc.gov.ng.
The Commission said the initiative underscores its commitment to fostering a healthy and competitive telecommunications environment that attracts investment, enhances service delivery and supports the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.
