Wema Bank Unveils Upgraded ALAT App with Voice Banking, Tap-and-Pay, Predictive Uptime
Wema Bank has unveiled an upgraded version of its flagship digital platform, ALAT by Wema, introducing advanced features such as voice banking, tap-and-pay functionality, and predictive uptime technology in a move aimed at redefining digital banking in Nigeria.
Branded “ALAT: The Evolution,” the upgraded application marks a major step in the bank’s digital transformation journey, offering customers a faster, smarter, and more intuitive banking experience. The new version is designed to enhance accessibility, reliability, and ease of use while reinforcing Wema Bank’s reputation as a leader in technology-driven financial services.
One of the standout features of the upgraded app is voice banking, known as SAW, which allows customers to perform banking transactions using natural voice commands. The platform also introduces Tap and Pay, enabling secure and convenient contactless payments, as well as uptime prediction, a feature designed to improve transparency and customer confidence by providing insights into service availability.
Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described the upgrade as more than a routine enhancement. According to him, “ALAT: The Evolution is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa. By understanding the future of banking and listening closely to our customers, we have evolved ALAT into a smarter, more intelligent and dependable digital banking platform that genuinely enhances how people live, work and transact every day.”
Oseni added that the transition to the upgraded app is seamless for existing users, who only need to update their ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and log in with their existing details. He noted that all account information and transaction history remain intact, while users gain access to the new features. New customers, he said, can also onboard easily by downloading the app and completing the registration process.
Also commenting on the innovation behind the upgrade, the Chief Digital Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, said the bank focused on improving both functionality and overall user experience. “By integrating voice banking, contactless payments and predictive reliability, we are delivering a platform that responds intelligently to customer needs. This upgrade reflects our long-term vision to build a digital bank that is adaptive, intuitive and consistently available,” he stated.
Built on speed, intelligence and user-centric design, ALAT: The Evolution is designed to anticipate customer needs in real time while simplifying everyday banking. With this latest upgrade, Wema Bank continues to consolidate its position as a digital-first institution, delivering innovative solutions that empower individuals and businesses to bank with confidence in an increasingly digital economy.
