Dangote Refinery Rejects Claims of Importing Finished Fuel, Affirms Local PMS Production

Lagos, Nigeria – February 9, 2026 – Dangote Petroleum Refinery has refuted recent reports suggesting it imports finished Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into Nigeria, calling the claims misleading and factually incorrect.

The statements come in response to a report by S&P Global, which was later circulated in certain newspaper adverts on Monday, February 9. Dangote Refinery stressed that such reports misrepresent its operations and distort public perception of Nigeria’s refining sector.

In an official release, the company clarified that it imports only feedstocks and blending components—such as high-sulphur reformates, low-RON condensates, and high-sulphur cracked gasoline—which require further refining before meeting market standards. It reiterated that the refinery does not import finished PMS.

“The propaganda is being spread by unpatriotic and unscrupulous actors who cannot accept Nigeria’s progress in refining,” the statement said, adding that individuals previously linked to fraudulent financing schemes at NNPC refineries would face justice in due course.

Dangote Refinery affirmed that all gasoline supplied to the Nigerian market is Euro 5-compliant PMS, undergoing rigorous quality checks to meet international standards. The company highlighted its role in improving fuel quality in Nigeria and reducing reliance on imported low-grade gasoline.

Calling on media and industry stakeholders to prioritize technical accuracy, Dangote Refinery reiterated its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s energy security, environmental sustainability, and economic growth through its world-class operations.
