DIG Sadiq Abubakar Visits FCID Annex Alagbon, Charges Officers on Professionalism, Supervision, Investigative Excellence
LAGOS — The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Sadiq Idris Abubakar, has charged officers of the FCID to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, effective supervision, and excellence in criminal investigations, as he paid a working visit to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
The visit, according to police authorities, formed part of the DIG’s statutory oversight and supervisory responsibilities aimed at strengthening investigative standards and enhancing operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
Addressing commissioned officers during the visit, DIG Abubakar urged them to make meaningful and positive contributions in their respective areas of responsibility while continually projecting the Nigeria Police Force and the FCID in a positive light. He stressed that the FCID remains the apex criminal investigation department in Nigeria and must consistently reflect that status through professionalism and integrity.
The DIG further directed officers to ensure close and effective supervision of their subordinates to entrench discipline, accountability, and strict adherence to extant rules and procedures. He commended officers and men of the Command for their resilience, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to duty despite prevailing operational challenges, assuring them that their efforts are recognised and appreciated by the Force leadership.
Speaking on operational conduct, DIG Abubakar emphasised that land ownership disputes are essentially civil matters and should not be investigated by the Police, except where clear criminal elements such as fraud, threat to life, or violence are established. He also admonished officers to harmonise cases properly and avoid parallel investigations of the same matter across different sections, noting that such practices lead to duplication of efforts and inefficiency.
The DIG reiterated the need for professionalism, integrity, and strict compliance with established investigative standards, adding that all officers are working towards a common goal of supporting the Inspector-General of Police in achieving his mission and vision of a more effective Police Force and a safer Nigeria.
In her response, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the FCID Annex, Alagbon, AIG Margaret Ochalla, fsi, expressed appreciation to the DIG for the visit and the valuable guidance provided. She assured him of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the mission and vision of the Force Criminal Investigation Department and pledged continued dedication to professional service delivery.
The visit concluded with renewed assurances of improved supervision, enhanced investigative practices, and sustained professionalism within the FCID Annex, Alagbon.
