Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Dr Ayo Ogunsan Hails Appointment of as Acting IGP, Says ‘RRS Products Now Leading the Force’
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has congratulated Olatunji Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), describing him as a proud product of Lagos’ security architecture and a shining example of excellence from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
The appointment of Disu followed the resignation of the immediate past IGP, , according to reports by the (NAOSNP).
Disu, who until his new appointment served as Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, was received at the LSSTF headquarters just days ago by the Executive Secretary of the Fund, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, upon assuming that role.
In a swift turn of events, however, Disu has now moved to Abuja to take up the highest policing office in the country. He was on Tuesday decorated with his new rank by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and formally received at the Force Headquarters by his predecessor, Mr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. He is expected to be confirmed by the Police Council as substantive IGP.
Reacting to the development, LSSTF Executive Secretary, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, expressed pride in Disu’s elevation, noting that the Acting IGP is not only Lagos-born but also distinguished himself as Commander of the Lagos-owned special security outfit, the (RRS).
According to Ogunsan, Disu’s tenure at the RRS significantly shaped his career and earned him widespread admiration among Lagos residents, where the squad became fondly known as “The Good Guys of Lagos.”
“He is a fine, athletic police officer who has represented Nigeria in sports internationally and has excelled in every role he has undertaken. His track record will continue to shine in this new position. I believe he is going to be exceptional,” Ogunsan said.
The LSSTF boss further stated that Disu’s appointment reflects positively on the Fund’s investment in security initiatives, particularly the RRS, which he described as the brainchild of the agency.
“With the emergence of Ag. IGP Disu, we can confidently say we are doing something right at LSSTF. Our brainchild, the RRS, is growing stronger and stronger and producing some of the best officers in the Nigeria Police Force. It produced former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and now it has produced our Acting IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. RRS products are now leading the Force,” he declared.
Ogunsan also offered prayers for the new Acting IGP, asking for divine strength, wisdom, and protection as he undertakes what he described as a “Herculean task” of leading the Nigeria Police Force.
“May you finish well and finish strongly in service to the motherland,” he prayed.
