Midnight Collision on Oshodi–Apapa Expressway Claims Two Lives

Lagos, February 19, 2026 – A deadly road accident occurred along the Cele inward axis of the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway, Mile 2, Lagos, late Thursday night, leaving two individuals dead, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed.

The collision involved two fully loaded 40-foot containerized trucks, one of which bore the registration T-392 LA. The impact fatally trapped the truck driver inside the vehicle, while a suspected miscreant was also killed when caught under one of the trucks.

LASTMA’s Rescue and Recovery Team, working alongside the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), carried out painstaking extrication and recovery operations. Security at the scene was maintained by the Nigeria Police Force, Ilasa Division, ensuring evidence preservation and perimeter control.

The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) later evacuated the victims’ remains, allowing normal traffic flow to resume on the busy logistics corridor.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki extended condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized the p of disciplined driving, especially on high-density freight routes. He urged truck operators to adhere strictly to speed limits, maintain vigilance during night operations, and deploy appropriate safety warnings to prevent similar tragedies.

The incident has been formally handed over to the Ilasa Police Division for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collision.
